His radio career began in 1951 with WTPR, Paris, where he was known for his laid-back hosting style and candid conversations with country music stars.
Following that, he worked at WNAH, WAGG, WSIX, and WMAK until landing his big break in 1957 with WSM’s late-night show, Opry Star Spotlight. For a decade and a half, the then 24-year-old was its host. Ralph was also the announcer for the Grand Ole Opry (1961-1964).
Ralph recorded Hello Fool in 1961, which went on to become a Billboard country smash, reaching No. 4 on the magazine’s country music singles chart.
