Wick’s old bunkmate at the Air Station, Thomas Merrill, was arrested and accused with engaging in the crime with Wick in November 1990. Merrill was also a Marine Lance Corporal at the time of the arrest.
After Wick was interrogated by police, Thomas acknowledged to renting a storage locker outside the Marine base three weeks before the crime and putting Wick’s firearms in it, according to the Police Department’s investigation. Despite the fact that Merrill first denied any involvement in the crime or knowledge of Wick’s involvement, another marine later came forward and stated that he committed the crime with an older buddy who had learned martial arts.
In June 1991, they appeared together in Orange County Superior Court for a jury trial. They are both presently incarcerated, serving life sentences in prison.
