Over 65 university professors have signed an open letter encouraging the university’s management to “publicly and firmly condemn a student for several harsh things she made online earlier this year.” In a tweet, she stated that she wished to “kill every motherf****** Zionist.”
The letter was delivered to USC President Carol Folt, Provost Charles Zukoski, and Board of Trustees Chair Rick Caruso on December 1.
In the latest of a series of letters from many of the same signatories, the professors asked administrators to rebuke Yasmeen Mashayekh, a civil engineering student, and to distance USC from her abhorrent comments.
Officials claim the university has made efforts since then, but many of the academic members who signed the letter, as well as Mashayekh and her supporters, are unhappy with the administration’s response.
Yasmeen Mashayekh, who is she?
Yasmeen Mashayekh is a student at the University of Southern California studying civil engineering. For International Women’s Day this year, she was designated one of the school’s Leaders, Makers, and Dreamers.
Yasmeen is also the President of the Viterbi School of Engineering’s Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and a senator on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.
Is Yasmeen Mashayekh being held for anti-Zionist tweets?
Yasmeen Mashayekh’s detention has elicited no public reaction as of now. In early 2021, she blasted out a slew of ugly and anti-Semitic tweets, including one that said, “Death to Israel and its b*tch, the United States.”
‘I want to kill every motherf****** Zionist,’ she added in another.
She added violent captions to other tweets. ‘LMAOOOOO THEY DID,’ says the narrator.
Following that, USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering commented on Instagram, recognising the individual as a student, “Even though the remarks at issue are legally permitted, they agree they are problematic.”
Yasmeen has preached antisemitism and violent anti-Zionist hatred in general, calling for Israel and the United States to be destroyed. She praised terrorists and expressed sympathy for Hamas.
She’s also incited anti-Semitism, maligned Israel, backed an anti-Israel agitator, and participated in anti-Semitism. She is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement (boycott, divestment, and sanctions).
