Hunt was born to Kathinka and Alan Hunt, who raised him. Greg is the youngest of four brothers. Bob Hunt, John Hunt, Stephen Hunt, and Peter Hunt are their given names.
His father was a politician, much like Greg. He was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1961 to 1992. He worked as a solicitor before embarking on his political career. Alan was first elected as a minister in 1971. Alan served as Minister of Education, Minister of Local Government, and Minister of Planning during his political career.
Moving on to Greg’s mother, she worked as a nurse. She died of a heart attack when she was 58 years old. Greg was continuing his schooling abroad at the time of her death.
Greg’s maternal grandmother was also a pioneer in the field of pharmacy, having graduated from the Victorian College of Pharmacy as one of the first female graduates. Phyllis Forster was her name.
Hunt, on the other hand, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Melbourne. He went to Yale University for his graduate studies and was a Fulbright scholar there.
