He was an eight-time Wrangler NFR qualifier who won his first world title at the age of 33 after a season in which he earned $280,636.
He won round four of the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo with 89.5 points. He flaunted his championship shape as he celebrated his victory.

Wade Sundell competed in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo for the first time in 2018.
He won Round 4 at the Thomas & Mack Center on December 6, 2021, with an 89.5-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Bet the Ranch.
Wade, a former PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion, was injured at Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo in San Juan Capistrano on August 24, 2019.
He was abroad at the time of the accident, filming The Cervi Brothers’ Living The High Life. In the chute, the horse sprang up and smacked the rider in the chest, lacerating his liver. Three surgeries were required as a result of the damage. The physicians then placed him in a medically induced coma for two weeks to allow his liver to heal.
He was released from Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California, on September 20 of that year. He was living at the famed Cow Camp, Rancho Mission Viejo, three days later, according to web accounts, walking and trying to regain weight following his hospital stint. He would make a slow but complete recovery.
Sundel’s medical expenditures were also covered via fundraisers such as Rodeo Elevate School.
Wade made his comeback to the rodeo a year later. He rode in the Iowa Championship Rodeo in Sydney, Iowa. He not only made it to the finish line, but he also claimed the lead on Fettig Pro Rodeo’s U b Rockin, scoring 84.5 points and outriding Wyatt Casper.

Doug Sundell and Laura Grieser raised him on a tiny farm near Boxholm, Iowa, where he was born in 1983. His father is a former PRCA member, as well as an electrician and plumber. His mother works for Boone County as an administrative assistant (Iowa).
Wade has one brother, Jesse, one half-brother, Colby, and four stepbrothers, D.J., Tony, Adam, and Tyler, in addition to his parents. Cloyd Sundell Jr., his grandfather, died at the age of 77.
