Charlotte Edwards is a former professional cricketer from England who served as captain of the England women’s team for a period of time.
She made her international debut for England in a Test match against New Zealand in July 1996 and went on to make over 300 appearances for the country across all forms, amassing a total of 10,273 runs in the process.
Because of his contributions to cricket, Edwards was named Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2009 Birthday Honours, and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2014 Birthday Honours for his services to the game.
At the International Cricket Council (ICC) awards ceremony in Dubai, the former cricketer was also named the ICC Woman’s Player of the Year 2008.
Her 20-year career saw her win four Ashes series and captained England to success in both the 2009 ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup before retiring in March 2016. She played her final match for England in March 2016 after having retired from international cricket.
Following her retirement, she has been employed as a head coach for the Southern Brave and an assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers, among other positions.
She was recently appointed as the first female president of the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) in 2021, following an election by the Player’s Committee at the PCA’s annual general meeting (AGM) on February 25.
